Bliss Glam Rock Hair Tips For 2008

2008 is now upon us, so don't just think about what to wear, knock 'em dead with these hair ideas from Session Stylist & Nottingham based salon group owner Nick Tedd from Bliss in Sherwood.

The Bliss salon group is owned and directed by Nick Tedd Nick, who started Bliss 10 years ago with just 1 member of staff, after returning from an inspiring time working in London where he gained artistic aspirations and big ideas. Now his company boasts a team of over 25, a loyal client following, its own training school and a stack of industry awards including 'Salon Team of the Year', the 'Investors in People Standard' and Midlands Category in the 'Edge Employer Awards 2005/6'.

'We were inspired by the elegant classic updo's, 60's backcombed bouffants, both fluffy & perfectly styled hair from the international catwalks, which are all looks to go for this season. Chic ballerina style buns, Bardot-esque glamorous tendrils & 'couture' ponytails are sleek & ultra feminine & really easy to do at home. In contrast, we also wanted our collection to have a punky, edgy & graphic feel from the youth culture evident on the streets & in clubs - think metallic & graphic, Bowie eccentricity with a cultish, vampy feel.'

With the above in mind, Nick & his team at Bliss have been putting together a collection of 'need to know' hair looks for 2008 called GLAM ROCK. We hope these looks inspire you to wear your hair with ultimate glamour, rock star rebellion or an excellent a mixture of the two! The more eccentric, the better!

Glam

To achieve these urban glamour looks, we first coloured & toned our models hair using shades from Redken's new colour range - Shimmer One, which works like a shot of botox with lip-gloss to give any head of hair, coloured or natural, a luminous high shine finish. We then applied Redken Guts to the root area on all these looks before combing through & 'power drying'. A combination of flat irons, clamped over random finger curled sections & heated rollers gave the hair texture, before lightly backcombing to give the hair a fluffy, frayed feel - proper emphasis was placed on 'dressing' the hair to get real retro glamour! Redken Rewind was then applied to give luxurious, moveable texture, & finished with Redken Vinyl Glam spray shine. Varied hairsprays from Redkens new range were used depending on the models hair texture to give a 'veil' of hold.

Rock

To get these sensual & dangerous looks we used a combination of cutting techniques which gave hard lengths, flat crowns, sever undercut disconnection with blocks & veils of colour which both clashed & blurred to achieve metallic type finishes which are richer & deeper than looks we've been seeing. Styling, finishing & holding products were used from the entire Redken styling range to achieve flashy, matt & high gloss textures.

Treat Yourself To Beauty Products That Make You Look And Feel Great!

There's no question that women are raised to be caregivers. We give our love and energy to our children, to our spouses, and to our friends. We volunteer our time to our children's schools, to our churches, and to causes we care about. We give our money to organizations that work on behalf of our communities, our country, and our world. And alongside all of that giving, many of us also give our intellectual power and physical prowess to the companies that employ us.

What About Me?

All too often, we're so busy caring for everyone else that we have little time and energy to give to ourselves. Given that mental health experts and health care professionals assert that our generosity often comes at our own expense, we need to carve out time from our hectic schedules to give ourselves a much-deserved break. After all, we have to fill up our own emotional and physical well so that we have resources to give to others.

Loving Your Body

It may sound trite, but it's true that when we love our bodies, we love ourselves. Taking care of our bodies from the inside out is important if we want to have the stamina to care for others. Eating a nutritious diet and finding time for exercise is important, but appearances matter, too. That's why it's important to invest in high quality beauty products that make us look and feel our best.

Take body wraps, for example. You can pay hundreds of dollars for body wraps at a spa, or you can invest as little as sixty dollars for body wraps you can do at home. Whether you're aching for a seaweed wrap, a clay skin-firming wrap, a detoxification wrap, or an anti-cellulite wrap, you can find wonderful beauty products that take only an hour of your time and that leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Of course, there are other skin products that can also help you look and feel your best. Moisture hydration formulas, serums that restore the ph balance of your skin, and scar reduction treatments help you to take care of your skin and improve your appearance.

Even as we try to mask the energy drain we feel, our hair tells the true story. Rather than treating the symptoms of damaged or thinning hair, we can actually take the time to find hair products that actually solve our hair problems. Hair products that correct ph imbalances, boost hair vitamins, and purify and condition our hair can help us look and feel our best - while only taking up a few minutes a day.

Loving Your Mind and Spirit

Beauty products can keep us looking great, but we also need to engage our minds and lift our spirits. A rich inner life doesn't mean neglecting those we love. Indeed, taking the time - whether an hour a day or an hour a week - to read, journal, or pray can give us the inner strength we need to support ourselves and those we love.

Make a resolution to take care of yourself. Buy and use high quality beauty products, eat nutritious foods, and fill your heart and soul. When you do, you'll have that much more to give others.

Can You Really Prevent Your Hair From Frizzing Up In Humid Weather?

Managing your curly hair in humid weather can be very frustrating for some. Now for people who like their hair curly - yes, there are some people for whom humidity is not a problem - it's much more of a blessing because they like what the humidity does to their hair. They are the lucky ones. Well, these people are the only ones that are happy with their hair in humid weather.

And what about you, you who don't like your hair when it gets curly/frizzy? Your hair looks beautifully smooth and blow styled until you step outside on a humid day and in no time the dreaded curly/frizz look appears on your head. Despite having put all kinds of anti frizz lotions and potions on your hair - and they promised - no frizz. Got to try something else, goes through your mind. What was that product again that was just advertised that I read about? Maybe I will try that one next.

So much has been written about "managing" your curly hair and so much money has been spent by consumers who hope and believe that they will get the expected results. And yet there is so much disappointment.

I wish I could tell you right here of a hair product that absolutely prevents your curly hair from getting curly and frizzy on a humid day. In my opinion it simply does not exist.

Now, I am talking about your curly hair that is styled in a smooth, lovely style and if you put some heavy kind of anti-frizz pomade all over your hair you will not get really frizzy hair when it's humid - curly yes - but you will also no longer have a beautiful soft, smooth hairstyle left.

But, wait a minute you say, what about if I get my hair chemically straightened? That should prevent my hair from getting curly and frizzy. It sounds logical. Hair straightening through a chemical process helps somewhat but I have noticed that when the air is humid it still frizzes just not as much and not in the same way. And don't forget chemically straightening your hair takes the bounce out of your hair. It's ok if you straighten your bangs or you want to wear your hair long, straight and totally flat for a long time.

And, what about hair conditioners. Hair stylists often suggest that if you put a hair conditioning treatment on your hair, that it will prevent your hair from getting frizzy. That too sounds logical because especially chemically treated hair (hair coloring, hair highlighting, perming), will make your hair more porous and therefore attract the humidity in the air faster. Well, it might help a little bit - but it will still get frizzy.

So, what is the solution? We are still waiting for the perfect ant-frizz product. In the meantime we keep on trying in the hope of finding one that really does the job.

Can You Lose Your Hair Because You Are Stressed Out?

You can obvious lose your hair if you are so stressed that you physically pull it out, but is there a more subtle version that comes with the daily grind of life?

Stress is defined as an abnormal condition of severe anxiety and worry. Stress is viewed as a rather recent phenomena and this is sometimes misleading. Certainly, stressful situations have always existed for human beings. There were situations such as war and disease that put whole populations under severe stress. Doubtless, during these situations, the physical effects of the stress were not much different than today. The difference was that the acute situation tended to lead to death or was resolved. The war ended and the disease passed. Once it did, humans tended to avoid stress and the pace of life was conducive to this process of stress relief. It was most likely that hair loss took place, but it was a minor problem compared to the problem that caused the stress in the first place.

Today, stress has become a norm. It is more related more to the pace of life than a particular acute situation. Although stressful situations still occur as often as before, it is the long term stress of people who are not really in an acute situation that seems to be on the rise. This day to day stress has led us to examine some of the health problems. One of these is hair loss.

It seems that the condition of the human head of hair is closely related to the sense of well being of the person. A shiny healthy head of hair is usually a sign of a person who is happy and content. Dull, lackluster hair that is constantly thinning and falling out is indicative of a negative state of mind and personal anxiety. The cause is most likely chemical and hormonal unbalances caused by stress which is seen as an abnormal state.

Human beings evolved as problem solvers. The sudden increases of hormonal and chemical substances in the human body, such as an adrenaline rush, were designed to help us deal with sudden emergencies. When our whole life becomes an emergency, we are not going to function on a hormonal basis as we were intended to function. There are conditions of short term hair loss resulting from such things as serious illness or surgery. This is understandable and although it may take awhile to reverse the effects, they are reversible.

It is when stress continues unabated due to a person's inability to mentally cope with the circumstances of their life that hair loss becomes serious and not likely to be easily reversed until the 'root" problems are addressed. Hair loss due to stress is our body's way of telling us something is wrong. It should be seen as a warning that a major change in our mental state and the mode of living is needed.
